Ovila Maillet
Ovila Maillet, 97, of Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at home on Sunday February 19, 2023. He was married to the late Huberte (LeBlanc) Maillet (2019). Born in Saint-Norbert, he was the son of the late Charles and the late Emma (Pellerin) Maillet.
Ovila started his career in the logging industry, and in 1971 became the founder of O.C. Maillet Transport Ltd. He was also a farmer for many years, and had a great appreciation for agriculture.
He will be sadly missed by his eight children; Jeannette LeBlanc (Donald) of Dieppe, Linda Maillet (Joe) of Middle Sackville, Noëlla Maillet of Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, Charline Delong of Fredericton, Shirley Collette (Roland) of Dieppe, Alice Green (James) of Moncton, Paul (May) of Bouctouche and Charles (Jacqueline) of Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, as well as his eleven grandchildren; Michel, Serge, Marc, Yves, Julien, Julie, Maurice, Mario, Denis, Luc and Amy, his fourteen great grandchildren as well as several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by one son; Aldéo, one sister; Irène and one brother; Bertrand.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Ovila’s daughter Noëlla for the wonderful care given to her father as well a special thank you to all his friends at the Petit Café in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent for their wonderful friendship and support.
Visitations will be held at Maillet Funeral Home, 29 rue de l’église, Bouctouche on Thursday February 23, 2023 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Friday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Saint-Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Bouctouche on Friday February 24, at 7:00 pm with interment in the Sainte-Marie-de-Kent Cemetery in the spring.
In Ovila’s memory, donations may be made to the Sainte-Marie-de-Kent parish fund.
Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Maillet Funeral Home, Bouctouche.
